Maximize Coil Life with Simple Routine Cleaning

At Marlo Heat Transfer Solutions, we manufacture quality coils – with quality materials – that are built to last. That’s why we can confidently back every one with our industry-leading 3-year warranty. In fact, our coils are built so well that they typically last much longer than 3 years. But long coil life is only possible if the coil is properly maintained.

When coils are neglected, allowing corrosion to slowly eat away at the metals, even the best built products are sure to fail over time. The good news is, it’s easy to get the longest possible life out of your coils by simply keeping them clean and corrosion free. Just follow these simple steps…

INSPECTION

Periodically, visually inspect your coils to assure that finned surfaces are free of dirt, debris and other airborne deposits. The coil, and entire system, should also be checked occasionally for any signs of leakage or malfunction. NOTE: Prior to performing any maintenance, coils should be taken out of service. Gloves, protective clothing and eye protection should be worn at all times when cleaning coils to prevent injury.

CLEANING

When you see signs of dirty coils, they should be cleaned immediately. Large debris can be removed by hand. For minor build-up of dirt or dust, simply brush or vacuum the face of the coil on the air entering side.

For more severe dirt build-up, we recommend using a solution of warm water and soap or detergent to clean the coils. Be sure to use a soft bristle brush to avoid damaging the finned surface area. Gently scrub dirt build-up from both the air entering side and air exiting side of the coil face, as well as any surrounding areas, as needed. Rinse the area with clean water, being careful not to allow water to enter other components, especially electrical devices and filters.

As an alternate method, low pressure steam can also be used to clean the coil. Before beginning, cover any equipment, wiring, etc. that may be affected by the steam spray. Using a wand, spray the steam through the coil face in the direction opposite the airflow until all dirt is removed.

RE-INSPECTION

After cleaning, inspect the coil again and repeat cleaning as necessary. When the area has been completely cleaned, dried, and inspected, re-install any filters, access panels, etc. that may have been removed for cleaning. Also remember to reconnect any electrical power that was disconnected.

If you feel your coil needs repair, contact your local Marlo Independent Manufacturer’s Representative (IMR). Unauthorized repair of the coil may void the warranty.
